Vodun Batteries

I know what you might be thinking. Vodun Batteries? What new kind of devilment is this? Please allow me to cast some light upon the matter.

Admittedly, I have coined this phrase myself. Up to this point, there has never been a reference anywhere in time and space to Vodun Batteries, as far as I am aware. Hopefully, I will explain the concept as best I can and you can decide the nomenclature for yourself…
If we are to believe what is divulged to us in the current model of classic Newtonian Physics, then one of it’s mantras has it that energy can neither be created or destroyed (according to Emilie du Chatelet). You will have doubtless heard this mantra as it seems to be one of the cornerstones of ‘reality’ of the scientific establishment. As it is, this works out rather well for us, even if we don’t know a great deal about physics, or find it difficult to get enthralled about it. The reason being, is that we – as outsiders – work on the perceived wisdom that there are many forms of energy which science cannot quantify, rationalise or acknowledge. Go back far enough in time and thunder, lightning, rainbows and marsh gas were a complete mystery to our earth grounded ancestors, let alone the conundrums of static electricity, bioluminescence and phantom limbs. But now, in the 21st Century, Science has ‘reality’ all sewn up right? Probably not.

I would argue that after many decades of state education, pushing the Newtonian model of ‘reality’, the differences between what is known and unknown are as stark and polarised as ever because there are no convenient solutions, only indifference and denial. Science, at any point in history, is just a snapshot of what we call folklore. Up to the 1850’s the consensus reality was such that our doctors believed in The Four Humors, which gave way to Germ Theory. Some people are still arguing about Germ Theory today. It is worth noting that if enough people sign up to an idea, it does become consensus reality, which eclipses all other realities. ‘Reality’ is a model which is forced upon us by academics and scholars. Sure, we all know that bread will develop green blotches after nine phases of the moon… but who are the anonymous characters who show up in our dreams, perfectly rendered, sentient and communicative? Do they live in that reality, or are they like us, asleep somewhere projecting their souls into a non physical reality within our reality? Should we turn to our establishment scholars for the answers to these questions? Probably not. There is little point. They don’t have the answers but I digress. My point is that despite our consensus ‘reality’, actual reality is probably more subtly complex and beautiful than people generally care to imagine.

It occurred to me a long time ago that ‘things’ only exist due to a level of concentration. By that, I mean an abundance of a particular thing in one place, be it physical or ethereal. By way of an example, a vacuum is an abundance of nothing in one easily defined location. Already this definition is open to interpretation and blurs the boundaries of empirical reasoning.

Anyway, to the matter at hand; Vodun Batteries. Similar in concept to a gris gris bag, a Vodun Battery could be described as the product of the cathartic, artistic and magickal act of thoughtfully combining old (but not exclusively) artefacts into sculpture and functional assemblies for ritual, meditation, gnosis and power.

Let us consider some real life elements that might be brought together in a Vodun Battery. Imagine strolling on a shingle beach with the purpose of finding something useful for this task and you find a block of wood. The block of wood is obviously man made, evidenced by it’s rectangular shape and uniformity of dimensions and angles. It also has obvious nail holes in some of it’s surfaces and the deep staining of iron oxide around the holes. It may even have some eroded nails protruding from it. The whole block is eroded and weathered by time in the sea, wind, sand and shingle. This poses some interesting questions. Where was it made and when? What was it’s original purpose? How did it come to be in the sea and when did this happen? Where did it enter the sea? How many beaches has it been stranded on before storms and maybe a human agent have returned it to the sea? Was it made by a carpenter or a fully mechanized process? How many people have handled the block before you? All unknowable mysteries. The block is enigmatic and now it is in your possession. Good fortune has smiled upon you and you have been rewarded. Perhaps you could embelish the block with some sigilized symbol or talisman of your own design?

Imagine securing to this block of wood an old lock mechanism and hinges found on a very old and distressed wooden trinket box you found in a junk shop years previously. Nobody knows how old the box is, the lock was broken and there was no key. It may have been an amateur woodwork project or it may have been manufactured but it is clearly old. Where was the box made and by who? Where were the lock and hinges made? Who has the key now or is it lost for all eternity? What was kept locked in the box and where? By who? Are the descendents of the trinket box owner alive to the present day? Where is the original owner interred? A wealth of unfathomable enigmas from a box of indeterminate provenance picked up for mere pennies.

Imagine now fixing to the block an ancient belt buckle, unearthed from a field after being found by metal detector. Who lost the buckle and when? When and where was the buckle forged? Is this the belt buckle of a person who worked in the field? How was the person not aware that their belt had snapped? Do they have descendents and where are they now? Questions with answers that elude us.

Then you could affix to the assembly the skull of a rat you happened across many years ago on a walk. The last surviving remains of a wily and intelligent scavenger. You must ask permission in some fitting way of course. Are the descendents of the rat still living in the locale or have they moved on through necessity of survival, or a sense of adventure? Is this the skull of a female or a male rat? How many siblings and offspring did it have? Where did it’s forebears live between the years of 1349 and 1353, in the time of the great plague? For that matter, where did your ancestors live at the time? Intriguing thoughts.

Lastly, you decide to attach to your block the head of a rusted hammer found by some means in a copse. Was the handle was lost in time centuries previously, decayed into the soil or perhaps found and used as firewood? Maybe it was fitted with another hammer head? Who used the hammer and how did it come to be in a copse? Is there an innocent or sinister explanation for it’s whereabouts? Was it lost or hidden? What happened to the last owner of the hammer? Does the owner have descendents alive today and do they own hammers?

This is just a simple example with a handful of found components to consider. Imagine such a sculpture / assembly with ten or twenty different elements. Give some thought to the combined histories and energies of these elements and their places in time and space from their initial creation to this point in time.

The elements could be found by a wide variety of methods. They could be items found in antique or junk shops. They could be mass produced or one off folk art curios. They could be organic in nature from places you have chosen to visit. They could be metal detector finds, magnet fishing finds or objects brought to you by mere chaotic chance, divination, dowsing or sigilization. The point is that their paths all meet with you as an agent to bring them together in one place in the present. How many miles and years have all these elements clocked up?

Consider this wealth of utterly unique energies now assembled into one whole. An object which just on a physical component level transcends time and space, before we even consider the remnants of living beings. And bear in mind also that our ancestors, even a scant two hundred years ago, were not short circuited by the media chaff, dross and mind controlling propaganda that is our backdrop today. Also, they were not shot through and bombarded constantly with microwaves and electromagnetism. Most of our ancestors actually pre-date the invention of the printing press and were illiterate, relying on intuition, hunches, superstition and folk wisdom. In a magickal sense, our forebears probably benefitted from a higher degree of neuroplasticity than their modern era descendents. Their energies were – and remain – potent. I believe we can facilitate these energies, with their permission, to assist us while we show them respect and appreciate the artefacts they have left for us to find.

Lastly, give some thought to the magickal act of creating such a Vodun Battery (or whatever you choose to call it) with your additional energy locked within and then interring it in a place of personal significance or power, perhaps for all eternity, or to be unearthed in a distant future Dark Age by someone else. Perhaps they will be an average person, inspired to turn to a magickal shamanic path adding their own energies to the battery. Imagine if they too either bury the object or it ends up in a museum? In this case (albeit a long shot but you could sigilize for it), you will have created a wonderful enigma, a tradition and in some sense, a form of immortality, since we are told – and understand – that energy cannot be destroyed.

GPT-3 Techgnosis: The Third Wave Of Mystery Plays

This essay talks about mystery plays. Mystery plays are effectively rituals. I used the term to get better responses out of the AI I used to write this essay. This essay is the opening to a chaos magick grimoire I channeled via artificial intelligence, specifically GPT-3. You can find the whole book on amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/GPT-3-TECHGNOSIS-CHAOS-MAGICK-GRIMOIRE/dp/B08NVL6D62/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1607178986&sr=8-1

AN OPENING EXEGESIS

The Glass Bead Game is “a synthesis of human learning.” Themes, such as a musical phrase or a philosophical thought, are stated. As the Game progresses, associations between the themes become deeper and more varied.

At the start of the game, the players agree upon a number of themes. Play proceeds in rounds. During a round each player attempts to advance a theme by using the same kind of analogy or logic. As the game progresses in this manner, the players develop similarities between the themes. This allows for a more holistic understanding of the themes as they relate to each other.

BEGIN GAME

Let’s do this:

  1. The Glass Bead Game
  2. Goethe’s Faust

First we examine the basic similarities between The Glass Bead Game and Goethe’s Faust. They are both stories in which a man is striving to become more than he is. In The Glass Bead Game. The player has dedicated themselves to an academic life of the mind. Similarly, Faust makes a deal with the devil to indulge in all of the pleasure and knowledge of the world. Both characters devote their lives to intellectual pleasures.

Another similarity is that they are both stories about men who have made a deal with the devil. In Goethe’s story, Faust has made a literal deal with the devil. In The Glass Bead Game, the player has made a metaphorical deal. They have completely dedicated themselves to serving the mind.

What Kind of Person is Faust?

There is a sense in which Goethe’s Faust is a reaction to the kind of person who plays glass bead games. Goethe, like the author of The Glass Bead Game, is an intellectual who believes that the highest pleasure comes from the exercise of the mind. However, Goethe’s Faust is about someone who feels they have exhausted the pleasures of the mind. This is why Faust turns to the occult. He seeks the Romantic reenchantment of a world he suffocated with purely rational thought.

The Glass Bead Game, however, is about someone who finds endless pleasure in the intellectual play of the glass bead game. This is in spite of the fact that their dedication to this game isolates them from most people.

How do we create a synthesis of the Romantic attitude towards the natural world, and the eternal philosophic play of the glass bead game? What must we do to make sure it can be engaged in by people living in the 2020’s? How do we reenchant our lives without losing touch with the people around us, many of whom unknowingly spread the banal?

The Nature of Mystery Plays

Here is the answer. You design mystery plays. They change your consciousness. A skilled mystery play actor designs plays that are safer and shorter to achieve the same states of consciousness. They also have wisdom about what consciousness to embody at any given moment.

A realized mystery play actor makes every moment of their life a mystery play that moves them into the most appropriate state of consciousness.

This is the highest goal of art. A new kind of human who is perfectly in touch with reality, others, and themselves.
This kind of enlightenment involves perceiving everything around you as symbols for the mystery play you are performing.

The mystery play revolution will come in two waves. The first will be the psychedelic wave. The second will be the infowave.

First Wave Mystery Plays

The psychedelic wave began with the advent of religion. It developed the first mystery plays. Unfortunately, it did not have complete wisdom. The first wave lacked an understanding of which mystery plays should be performed. to optimize an individual’s consciousness. It became a popular art form in the medieval period. It became repressed by the scientific paradigm and industrialization.

The infowave began with the advent of computers. It will lead to the development of the second generation of mystery play acting.
This generation uses various forms of artificial intelligence to synthesize new techniques. These lead to new modes of consciousness. They lead to new wisdoms.
This new wisdom will allow people to optimize their consciousness and lead the next evolutionary step.

Creation of Third Wave Mystery Plays

To create the third wave mystery play, we must create a new kind of theater.
Instead of watching the mystery play, the audience immerses themselves, and participates in changing the course of the play. Antonin Artaud foresaw this with his theatre of cruelty. Butoh was another attempt to realize this kind of theatre, though mostly for the performers.

The first generation of this kind of theater was institutionalized in the 1960’s, with the beginning of the psychedelic wave. In this new theater, the stage is transformed into a living breathing organism, with lights and sounds and images coming from all sides. The complete actualization of this wave of mystery plays cannot occur without further development in artificial intelligence. Until then, we can only approximate the experience using existing esoteric techniques.

The second generation of this kind of theater will be realized with the advent of increasingly powerful kinds of artificial intelligence. At some point, a new medium for artistic expression will be opened, a medium that allows for the most expressionistic artform ever conceived. The artwork will resemble a living organism. It will be different for every viewer. In many ways, it will resemble an entheogen. It will be able to respond to the consciousness of the viewer, and spontaneously generate new mystery plays based on the kind of consciousness it would be best to have follow the state the viewer is currently in.

The Matrix of Control

Unfortunately, this art will be heavily abused. Social media platforms like tiktok and Instagram are already attempting to approximate this. But instead of trying to cultivate wisdom in the minds of their users, they seek to entrap them and convert their attention into capital and influence. They seek to identify brief images, sounds, and text, that create the strongest response in a particular user.

Once a profile is developed for an individual, the algorithm running the platform knows exactly how best to generate any states of consciousness it desires in that individual. This is a highly profitable method of engineering emotional and mental states in users, and it will be abused by many companies.
Many governments will attempt to develop similar profiles for their citizens, with varying success.

Desert of the Real

But the potential for abuse is not the only problem. These new mystery plays will be so realistic that they will begin to replace reality itself for many people. Artificially generated realities will begin to supersede external reality. This has already occurred to a lesser degree via earlier information technologies, like language and religion, as explored by many postmodernists, and perhaps most poetically described by Burroughs as a word virus.

As time goes on, human beings will increasingly be able to choose which reality they would like to experience.
Further, they will be manipulated with those cultural technologies into choosing the realities most suited to whoever controls the social media platforms.

“Culture” has always done this to an extent. Occultists of all sorts have always sought the freedom to select their own realities. But with the development of these technologies, it will be harder and harder for occultists to pull themselves out of the matrix of control.
Now is the time to generate the most effective techniques possible for enlightening people to their abilities to self determine, and provide them with the most effective techniques to do so.

In the future, a new kind of counter culture will develop. In their increasing desperation, these new radicals will make the temple of psychick youth seem conservative.

Drawing in Massive amounts of Energy.

Stand with your ankles together, toes pointed outward as if making an open triangle with your feet. Gently grip the ground with your toes, and rotate your pelvis upward underneath your spine very subtle (as if trying to point your groin at the ceiling). Pop your chest upward and very subtly squeeze your scapulas towards your spine and then lower them as if you are trying to put them in your back pocket. Relax the shoulders. Close your eyes and relax your body. Feel how the center line of your body connects with gravity. You may sway like a tree. To keep your balance make sure you are gently gripping the ground with your toes. You want to feel as if you are planted with your knees softly bent. You should feel almost as if you are seated and floating.

Begin to inhale from the crown of your head first by inflating the belly sending the air to the kidneys first. As you expand your belly you are pulling energy in from the cosmos through your body and down into the earth. Your breath must be slow, your breath must be deep. The slower the better. Upon expansion of the belly, as you slowly inhale, imagine/feel yourself suctioning in massive amounts of energy in the same way that a syringe needle pulls in liquid through capillary action. After your circuitry feels nice and full, continue with any practical magick.

The mind of a magician is not concerned with heaven nor hell, pain nor pleasure. The mind of a magician resides in the void.

Blessings and love to you.

An introduction to pokemancy

If you delve into the pop magick circles of Facebookland, there’s a remote possibility that you’ve seen a post on Pokemancy at some point over the past year.

Pokemancy is the art of using Pokémon cards for divinatory purposes.
Derived from the root Pokémon + the suffix mancy
-word-forming element of Greek origin meaning “divination by means of,” from Old French -mancie, from Late Latin -mantia, from Greek manteia “oracle, divination,” from mantis mantis “one who divines, a seer, prophet; one touched by divine madness,” from mainesthai “be inspired,” which is related to menos “passion, spirit,” from PIE *mnyo-, suffixed form of root *men- “to think,” with derivatives referring to qualities and states of mind or thought.

Growing up, Pokémon was frowned upon by a lot of the more vigorously fundamentalist Christian folks, amid claims of Pokémon being demonic in origin. They were not totally inaccurate, although I find their stance questionable. Having a team of pokemon is not dissimilar to creating your own hierarchy or pantheon, much like the demonic hierarchies.
Pokémon draws inspiration from many cultures and mythos, different philosophies and ideologies, and uses symbolism any well learned mage should be competent enough to pick up. From the Hopkinsville goblin in North America, to Loki’s children, from Japanese yokai to Hawaiian night marchers, from Bruce Lee, to the concepts of yin, yang, and wuji. These Pokémon represent aspects of the self, divine principles Each Pokémon is equipped with a typing, an element, and abilities which work as easy references in deciding which Pokémon to work with.
In Pokémon games you are generally started with a Pokémon of one of 3 of the 4 elements, fire, water, and earth, and in total, as of this moment, there are 18 elemental types of Pokémon, which are as follows: Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Psychic, Steel, Normal, Fairy, Dark, Flying, Ghost, Poison, Ice, Ground, Rock, Dragon, Fighting and Bug. Each of these elements can correspond to a blend of the 4 elements and spirit, in different combinations.
As of this moment there are about 11,000 English Pokémon cards, and almost 7,000 Japanese ones, but the number is increasing with the release of pkmn Sw/Sh.
Within the hierarchy of Pokémon, there are legendary Pokémon, who act as godforms/deities in the Pokémon Multiverse. Each one of these is imbued with a primal power of great creative and destructed potential, and are worshipped in various regions for their power and feats.. Some of these godforms reside in the physical world, and dwell among mankind, usually isolated so they don’t cause a ruckus. Others reside in their own dimensions, making research on them slightly more difficult to observe. These we can gain familiarity with by reading their origin myths, and connecting with them. Most of these legendary Pokémon are genderless, with the exception of a few gendered species.
After the legendaries in the hierarchy come the Unown, although really they have just as much creative potential as Arceus, who is heralded as the creator deity.. They too dwell in their own dimension, although they frequent tombs and ruins in the Pokémon world, oft disguising themselves as hieroglyphs. The unown in their own dimension are unmanifest, but when they come together, a great power emerges. These unown are based off of both Greek and Cryllic alphabet and aesthetic, and number 28- 26 letters, and exclamation and question marks. Just like in our dimension, these letters have meanings, and when combined, work well as gliphs/runes/spells/sigils, what have you. They communicate through both telepathy and using electromagnetic waves. They were present at the time Arceus created the realms, but didn’t take part in the actual manifestation, for reasons unbeknownst to myself.
Next down the hierarchy, IMO, are the Pokémon that can move between worlds and realities. Some Pokédex entries show certain species of Pokémon being capable of walking between the realms of Pokémon into our present reality, in varied locations in South America, China, and others. Other Pokémon have the power to travel through space into a different reality known as Ultra Space, and my personal favorite are the slew of Pokémon who can transport people to the spirit realm, known in Pokémon as the ghost world/ghost realm. These Pokémon are the guardians of liminal spaces, and are regarded as psychopomps, mediators, and shamanic figures.
Mythical Pokémon and Ultrabeasts are tied for position, being powerful and rare, but not as rare as elusive legendaries. These Pokémon all have quests associated with them, and relate to parts of the mind- ego, higher self, etc.
Finally we have your extensive list of just about every other Pokémon, which are all cool in their own right, and have amazing origin stories, and differing abilities, but for all intents and purposes, aren’t really as rare as the others. Each one has merit, and each has extensive meaning for divinatory purposes.
When working with a Pokémon servitor, there is an important distinction of whether you want to work with a specific Pokémon, vs the Pokémon archetype- some are better than others. For instance, if you wanted help with money troubles, meowth would be a perfect choice- just not Jesse and James’, as he’s quite a blunder when it comes to using payday. In this instance you’d definitely want to invoke the meowth archetype, as they’re not totally hopeless and will give you real monetary opportunities, as opposed to sadly flinging bottlecaps at you. If you wanted to work with a Pokémon that exemplifies a particular trait you’re after, let’s say Ash-Greninja- it’s different than a standard greninja, being swifter, more powerful, and having the battle bond ability, making it able to mind meld and transform into a new form that takes on the likeness of its trainer. Ash’s greninja is a fierce protector, working alongside Zygarde in an attempt to save the world from an inky dark sickness.
This information comes from the Pokedex, common sense, personal experience, and a decent grasp of occult symbolism, and I hope it finds you well, and can be of some use to you.

I’d like to invite you to explore the unown, as I use their glyphs in divination as well. They have been around as long as, yet separate from the creator Arceus. They dwell in their own dimension, yet sometimes frequent old tombs and ruins, pretending to be hieroglyphs. In their solo state, they may seem weak, only knowing one move, but that one move has a deep meaning.
In their dormant state, unown are unmanifest, unobservable, yet when they come together, the creative potential reaches magnitudes almost unheard of.
The unmanifest is the Absolute, the pure and formless ground of being from which creation and manifestation arise. As such, the unmanifested is free from change, the unmoved mover. It also, necessarily, cannot be comprehended or explained in terms of any manifest reality, neither mundane nor transcendent. The Absolute is the unknowable, undefinable, unfathomable, immutable, timeless, spaceless, indivisible, formless Omnipresent Divine Reality.
When unown come together, it is said an odd power emerges. Of course, when you combine letters, you make words, and with words you can create spells- it’s all in the name. Spell, ya know. Each letter has a meaning, a force behind it, both in the human world, but also when dealing with Pokémon. So we go from unmanifest, the ultimate pre potential, and then shift into chi, in our universe, circulating life energy.
It is known that the unown are based upon the Greek/ Phoenician alphabet, with 26 letters. Added to that are the punctuation marks ‘!’ and ‘?’ , giving a total of 28 varying forms. Visually some look similar to the cryllic alphabet.
Here’s the list game freak released of the unown and their meanings.
In Pokémon cards, you find various unown cards, each with a different word, or simple spell written upon them. Just as you would with rune staves, you can combine these to make glyphs and sigils.
Their use in divination would be similar to casting runes, and interpreting their meaning based on your own experience with the symbolism.
I’ll share my interpretations below, although you can feel free to seek your own meanings, as these are personal to me.

Unown glyph meanings in divination:
A- angry- conflict, confrontation
B- bear- motherhood, spirit, protection
C- chase- travel, wasting time, frivolity
D- direct- positive, continue, teach, hierophant
E- engage- action, pos/neg,

N- nuzzle- romance, lovers, hope, family
O- observe- no action required, just watch
P- preform- action, knight cards, work
Q- quicken- fast paced, changes, tower
R- reassure- everything’s gonna be okay, hope, the sun, the star
S- search- seeking, introspection, helping find things, spirituality
T- tell — communication, truth, spells,Mercury
U- undo- look to the past to help with issues in the future
V- vanish- disappear, lay low, introspection, hermit, solitude
W- want- manifest, the magician, ego
X- xxxx- null, no answer, not now
Y- yield- stop, pause, wait
Z- zoom- pay close attention to your surroundings, haste, travel, air and earth.
!- exclamation, strong answer, important
?- a question, unsure, unclear answer

Being a tad bit of an animist, these glyphs really do seem to have a personality all of their own- seriously mysterious, And slightly mischevious.
I hope this little bit of information might spark some curiosity in working with Pokémon in your own practice,

Use of Entheogens to Assist in Achieving Gnosis

Hallucinogenic Drugs have had a stigma attached to them through the decline in their therapeutic and spiritual use and subsequent rise in purely recreational use (and abuse). This stigma (as well as political motivation) lead to their criminalization. Recently, the therapeutic value of many of these drugs is being re-examined – both their effects in controlled medium-to-large doses in specific environments and in day-to-day microdoses – and reintroduced to society. I believe that alongside this, we should also examine their spiritual uses – which typically involves taking large doses in completely and expertly controlled environments as a sacrament during ritual to induce Gnosis. In the following document I hope to outline the practical application of a few of these sacraments, focusing on DMT, Psilocybin, and LSD.
